It is obvious that everyone has a favorite car. Everyone has offered suggestions about the type car we should purchase. We have had suggestions from the Japanese made Acura to the Swedish made Volvo from the American made Jeep to the Australian made Holden. We appreciate each and every suggestion. It is obvious that every person who suggested a car has felt they made an excellent choice. We hope when we do decide on a car we will feel the same way.
Before going further about our search let me clarify our reasoning for searching for a small SUV type car rather than a sedan. It is not just to haul the furniture we find at estate sales. We have two adorable puppies that will travel with us no matter where we go. They require their travel cages and special foods to travel with us so they continue to live in the style they are accustomed to. Then, we need room for our camping gear, plus our suitcases. Any sedan would be at best a tight fit: worse case scenario? Impossible! So, we have decided to limit our search to SUV type cars.
Now, let me cover why we have narrowed our search to General Motors vehicles. General Motors is the only car maker offering onStar. Yes, other products are emerging, but onStar has a proven track record. We need a built in technology, not one we need to figure out.
After much agonizing between Chevrolet (after all we could sing the “Drive the USA in your Chevrolet” song as we ventured down the road) and Buick (no catchy song), we settled on the car with the better safety record. We debated back and forth between the Chevrolet Equinox and the Buick Encore. They both have all wheel drives available… which is safer when driving in snow. The Chevrolet is wider than the Buick, but both have adequate cargo space. The turning radius is better on the Buick, but the Chevrolet has greater power. We wanted a red car so when driving in snow we would be visible, For color options, the Chevrolet offered Siren Red, the Buick Winterberry Red. Who doesn’t like Winterberries?
But in the end the Buick had the better safety record so we decided on the all wheel drive Winterberry Red Buick Encore, even though it has no song… any song suggestions?
