Construction Zone…

As we prepare to leave the Islands in a week, please don’t anyone panic…

Our basement, though a huge challenge, continues to make progress. Breaking up and tearing out concrete, taking down pipes started with just a generator to provide light. Care had to be taken. Finally, the electricity was turned on. But, Scott and I did not feel comfortable making final decisions on a project this large from four thousand plus miles away. So the basement floor is on hold until we arrive and decide where we want the bathroom. Do we want the laundry room and puppy grooming area in the basement or should we stick to the main floor.

Seventeen radiators! GONE! That is how many radiators needed to be pulled out of our cottage

Ceilings in the basement? GONE!

Ceilings on the main and second floor? GONE!

All ceilings pulled down so we can put radiant heating and new wiring through the whole house.

What a mess! Lath everywhere!

The dumpster arrives!

All the old wiring? GONE!

New PEX tubing to be put throughout the house. By the time we arrive? Hopefully, the second floor bathroom will be operational…

We are the ones limiting our electrician, heating and air conditioning, and plumbing experts at completing their jobs. Until we arrive we cannot make final decisions, so they can’t proceed with their work. So with those constraints, they are installing part of what we need on each floor. We will have some heat, some electricity, and some plumbing… the rest waits for our arrival and final decisions so our wonderful experts can complete their work.

So… we know we are arriving in the middle of a construction zone. But, that is very much okay! We lived through over two years of construction here in our tiny condo, we think we can survive a few months of construction in our new home. After all, we are making progress and this is “our” new adventure…
