Puppies…

Probably the most stressful part of this move is the shipping of our puppies. Living in Hawaii they never had to have rabies shots. Moving to the Mainland each of them must have a rabies shot.

These sweet puppies have reactions to so many things… their receiving rabies shots was really stressful for us. Would they have a reaction or be fine? Because we had no idea how they would react we took one at a time. We did not want two sick puppies at the same time in case the worse happened.

The only thing that makes this better is the puppies wonderful veterinarian, Dr. John Kaya. His love for each animal he treats is amazing.

So knowing these shots had to happen, Happy went first. He is older and we felt he might need more recovery time if there was a reaction. Dr. Kaya checked him over thoroughly before giving the shot. He was pleased with how healthy Happy’s heart is for an older dog. Even though he was very intimidated having to go to the veterinarian his heart beat steady and strong without the hint of a murmur. Now was time to watch if he would become lethargic or sick. Low and behold he was full of energy. You would have thought Dr. Kaya had given him a shot of adrenaline. His appetite was voracious and he wanted to play catch. One down… one to go…

Mr. Ems, not even two years old, is very sensitive to shots. So again our anxiety level rose. When Dr. Kaya checked Mr. Ems he heard a slight heart murmur. Our baby, our rambunctious one had a heart murmur. But, he assured us it was very slight and possibly just nerves. Fingers crossed. Time will tell. Once again, he gave the rabies shot and Mr. Ems did not even notice. But, we had missed his booster shots so Mr. Ems needs a second set of shots. Mr. Ems had to return for one more set before we leave the Islands. First we have this rabies shot. Sigh… we made the appointment and went into observation mode for the rabies shot. But, Mr. Ems, like Happy responded as if she had been given a shot of adrenaline. Voracious appetite and wanting to play…

Yesterday Mr. Ems and Happy had their final physical examination and papers were filled out so they could fly.

Mr. Ems had to have another series of shots. We hope Mr. Ems responds as well as he did to the rabies shot, but since the shots has been very still and not wanting to play. Will update you in a couple of days as to his progress…

We so wish we could just pack up and take everyone at the Hawai’i Kai Veterinary Clinic with us. The puppies love them and so do we, but we and the pups take with us most wonderful memories…
