Now to the reality of our arrival… When we were about two hours outside of Gloversville we received a text that the heating in our home would be delayed a couple of days and we did not have water or a working toilet! So when I sent an email to our car dealership that we would be arriving to pick up our car in a couple of hours, imagine our surprise when we received a return email that our car had not arrived at the dealer’s lot yet! And, to top it off it would probably not arrive for the next week or two.
We have been planning and working for this move very pro-actively for a solid four months. Mailing money promptly when requested… checking and double checking that each step was in place… Yet, as we all know… the best laid plans…
So facing our new reality, we regrouped. We stopped by the house thinking we could hunker down for a couple of days because there was a small electric heater in the attic in the room that was going to be our master bedroom. Lo and behold, we could not make it turn on. Not only would Scott and I freeze, but the pups are not used to any type of cold. Happy is old enough it could be very challenging to his system to be in close to freezing temperatures. We had no choice… another motel was needed for at least one more night. This time I not only wished for a place that accepted puppies and warmth, but cleanliness too!
I am thrilled to say that we found a delightfully clean warm pet friendly motel in Johnstown, sister city of Gloversville. And to add to our delight, it cost less than the “not so clean” motel from the night before. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner, had a wonderful warm shower and a good night’s sleep. We woke ready to tackle the challenges ahead. An unheated home, no car, no bathroom, or running water…
Friday, our car rental had to be returned to Albany airport… we needed a way back to Gloversville… we needed a warm safe place for our puppies… fortunately, our electrical contractor gave us the trick to making the old, but safe, electrical heaters in our attic bedroom work. Did they make the room toasty? Not a chance! But, they did take the sharpest edge off the bitter cold. And, remember… Spring is doing its best to shove “ole winter” back into hibernation for a while.
So the adventure continues…
