Friday we went to our first estate sale in Cherry Valley, New York. We planned to take pictures of the sale, but the trip so took my breathe away it left me speechless. It was an overcast day with occasional showers…
The countryside, and I do mean “country”, is so stunning I wonder when the “awestruck” feeling will ease. Woods, farm land, a sprinkling houses, the Mohawk River on our left as we headed south instead of our right when on the Interstate… Warnings to watch for falling rocks even though the hills were covered in trees. Occasional obvious signs of actual falling rock… The further south we travelled through more farmland tucked in-between mountains. Green was everywhere.
We crossed the Mohawk and I thought we had arrived in Cherry Valley. So we re-programed Google Girl and the car’s OnStar only to have them insist we had further to go. But this town had a MainStreet with the correct address. Totally confused I called the telephone number to the Estate sale, explained we had just crossed the Mohawk… where was the sale? Apparently, we were in Canajoharie, about twenty miles north of our desired destination. So we climbed the hills out of the Mohawk River valley and drove through some of the loveliest farmlands you could ever wish to see. I asked Scott to stop several times so I could take pictures of these lands so I would be able to enlarge them and actually see how beautiful they are up close and personal.
By the time we arrived at Cherry Valley, it was almost time for the sale to begin. We learned we needed to pick up a number as we were to enter by number. We were numbers 33 and 34. I was concerned that the objects we wanted would be sold before we even entered the door…
But good fortune smiled on us and we picked up five beautiful cast iron enameled pots, a ceramic pie dish, a couple of ornate muffin tins and four cast iron individual casserole dishes. They had so many marvelous items we could have shopped all day, but we had purchased what I had seen online and I was thrilled. So we paid for our treasures and drove home through mist-covered rolling hills and magnificent farmland…
