Happy is determined to keep us on our toes! She is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday to take care of her ongoing teeth issue. Could everything be copacetic until then? No!!! She decided to have some tummy problems! So off we ran to see Dr. Will at Glove Cities Veterinary Hospital to see if surgery was still possible. So far so good… We started her on medicines in preparation for the surgery and to make sure her tummy was properly settled. Keep your fingers crossed…
Then… we learned that two of our largest trees in our front yard are diseased and dying… two of our largest! We knew one in the back yard was as dead as a door nail, but to have to remove two more??? The only possible positive to any of this is we could plant three more beautiful trees to replace the two we are losing. The trick is that they must be trees that will grow no higher than fifteen to twenty feet so they don’t interfere with the city’s electrical wires. But, rather than focus on the sadness of our loss we are looking forward to the increased beauty of our three new trees.
Undertaking renovating our Victorian cottage is, as most of you have figured out by now, demanding, enormous, and unfolding on a daily basis. Just as soon as we make progress in one area we realize there are at least three other areas that need to be addressed to complete that one project.
But, we have made one giant leap forward! Our old kitchen is… Dismantled! Gone! Kaput! That tiny bathroom in the kitchen is…Dismantled! Gone! Kaput!
We now have open space to see what is available for our cabinets, appliances, sinks, and counters. We decided on Hickory cabinets… Since hickory is the hardest, heaviest and strongest of our American woods it is appropriate we use it in our kitchens… The sapwood, the softest outer layers, of hickory are white, tinged with inconspicuous fine brown lines. While the heartwood, that dead inner wood, is pale to reddish brown. It is those mixtures of the fine brown lines, and pale to reddish brown that has us enchanted with hickory…
So many decisions… so much fun…
