We so wanted… well, “I so wanted”… a nice garden this summer… though Scott has become quite the gardener. He checks on our babies regularly… both the edible and non-edible kind of plants…
Without a decent sink of sorts… washable edibles are out of the question… but, two achievements! (1) Our potatoes should be ready for winter (2) our non-edible flowering plants are thriving!
Some doors needed removing. They were superfluous. Joe and Randy hauled off a few. But, Jeremiah likes to recycle wood doors so he has claimed five for himself.
There were two interesting doors in our second floor hallway. One opened to a full length mirror and one to a very shallow coat… sweater… random article of clothing… closet? We removed both doors. Both pukas (as we say in Hawai’i) will be converted to small shelves to display random artifacts.
Both pukas reflected by mirror in hallway
One door went from the large bedroom to a sink that connected to another door to a smaller room. Since we pulled out the sink, closet, and shelves to make the large bedroom larger, neither door was necessary.
Then we removed the doors to the sewing/craft room and laundry room. The sewing/craft room will be an in and out room to such a degree that door would never be used. The laundry room is located at the end of the hallway so unless you are directly in front of it you would never notice if it was open or closed anyway. And, our washer and dryer are so pretty, I love to glance at them each time I walk by. Plus, our puppies need all those doors removed so they have a clear path for their race track!
Molding, removing old paint, and refinishing those lovely wood frames will be cold weather projects.
Scott, my intrepid Scott, continues diligently tackling insulating each room’s heating system. Plus, he is smoothing the edges of the ceilings from the rough-edged teardown that took place. The ceilings are slowly becoming prepared for sheetrock installation.
Monday afternoon our third floor insulation was stopped by a “thundery” (term used by our weather widget that we have come to enjoy) deluge.
Tuesday, they spent all day removing old useless ceiling and installing more insulation. Our bedroom is becoming cooler by the hour.
Today The Climate Chief should complete the job just in time for a hot (90) tomorrow!
And, we lost three more minutes of daylight last night… winter is coming… ?
