Laughter and tears have been a huge part of my life… Always… Most of my life has been lived very open… emotions right out there…
When we had Joshua, we made a point to make laughter a huge part of our life. In fact, in his action plan for his care, we listed twenty minutes of laughter each day… and we worked diligently to accomplish those twenty minutes. Silly things like… just “pretend laughing” which could set off real laughs.
Laughter is good for the heart… laughter is good for the soul… laughter is good for just about everything…
How blest (archaic form of blessed for archaic woman :)) I am! Scott keeps me giggling… chortling… and guffawing… most of the day. If he is in a really good mood, I am lucky if I can catch my breath between laughs…
Now please keep this in mind… Scott has always been a sweetie, but with work… worried about Josh… worried about me… he was not quite as entertaining as he is these days. He had too much on his mind to remember to enjoy all the fleeting light moments. But, now? He rarely misses a beat.
Example: (More detail in a later blog) we bought some Christmas village decorations. I asked Scott to take pictures of each item so we would know exactly what we have.
Before I knew it, Scott had brought up bags of decorations. He was carefully arranging them in groups and taking pictures. Now, he was not just lifting decorations out of bags and taking pictures, he was posing each set of characters for the best angle… positioning them so they complimented each other.
Giggling playfully, I teased him, “I didn’t know you liked to play house?”
“Action figures!” he responded with a serious “guy” face.
My continued giggling elevated into chortling… sputtering… I reiterated, “play house” hardly able to contain my glee.
“Dioramas!” he sputtered as he struggled to maintain his serious stance amidst his own giggles.
After about an hour of playful silliness we settled back down to just contented togetherness.
We giggle about three cars in the line at McDonald’s drive-thru… about a five car traffic jam… about running downstairs one more time for some forgotten object…
We giggle… chortle… and, guffaw… our way through each day and most of the night… and, we highly recommend you do too… it’s good for the heart… good for the soul… good for just about everything…
P.S. Having a husband who likes to play with detail is an additional blessing for me with my limited vision.
