The surprises keep coming… Now one side of one of our dormers is rotted out. Part of one side of one of our chimneys needs masonry work and the chimney cap repaired. And we did not have one layer of plywood on some sections of the house, but two layers… doing this causes irregular heights for the shingles… allowing for leakage during storms. Oh, we are so grateful we are totally replacing the roof!
Then, as the end of Friday approached, the men were pushing really hard to button the roof up for the long weekend. Only surprise! A monster deluge accompanied by thunder and lightning strikes way too close moved in without warning. They pushed to attach tarps to protect us, then skeedaddled to safety and home for a holiday weekend.
The deluge was so heavy we had several leaks. Scott was running around finding pails to intercept the torrents of water pouring down and across the floor. I assured Jeremiah we could handle the leaks. Under no circumstances did we want anyone on the roof. Lightning was too high a risk.
The rain stopped… the leaking stopped… we all survived. And, we had a fairly free of rain holiday weekend.
FYI… the deluge was so heavy it inundated our basement through all the cracked walls.
But… the house survived… we survived… We hope all of you, not only survived a wonderful Fourth, but had a relaxing remembrance of the establishment of the democracy that is the basis on which our country was founded…
