Creeping along… that is best how to describe how progress is moving along. We KNOW it is all coming together, but at this stage “creeping along” is our best description.
Yesterday Glenn Valachovic, our plumber, inventoried the plumbing supplies we have on hand so he can purchase what we still need. Joe Prue and Randy Brown, our construction men, came and measured for the sheetrock in the sewing room and measured for some more windows we need replaced because they have cracks. Two more weeks before we see Larry McGillis, our mason, and basement repairs start… which is why so many other projects are in slow mode. Once Larry completes the basement it will be full steam ahead (referring to the old steam engines… showing my age again :)).
Yesterday when Scott was weed whacking… too wet to mow. He lopped off one of the branches to one of our holly bushes. He was so upset… apologizing profusely to the plant, but hoping to not have to confess to me. This morning he came clean with the most sorrowful face… his guilt apparent.
My contention is… if we mulch with hay, he will not have to whack close to the plants and the hay provides nitrogen to the plants. He is concerned the hay will make the yard look like a hay field. Mine is… (1) the hay is just around the plants and (2) the hay feeds our soil and increases the humus content. As winter approaches and our baby plants need extra protection, the hay could be a marvelous blanket.
Since so many of you enjoyed our Mr. Lincoln yesterday, we are providing pictures of both roses today. And, yes, the roses are gloriously fragrant…
