Stop the Press…

Yes, Stop the Press! (Oh my, I am old… does anyone use a press any more?)

We took “Another” road trip… Whimsical kitchen tile… in a fairly reasonable price range, (we realize reasonable is relative) was still our goal. Off to Best Tile in Syracuse! One hundred seven miles each way… (We know our friend, Bob, is cringing at the distance) We brought Ems because she loves road trips and to give Happy a peaceful morning.

But, this trip provided another picture of the locks along the Mohawk River (The Mohawk people named the river Tenonanatche, “A river flowing through a mountain”).

When we arrived at Best Tile we were greeted by Amanda Essel. We explained our whimsical pursuit and Scott mentioned “turquoise” just in case. After directing us to the area with potentially whimsical tiles, Amanda disappeared. We presumed she had another customer to attend.

Continuing our rummaging through box after box of tile samples, we found Mir Mosaics, the Netherlands Collection, Michelangelo White… This is what I have been searching to find! Now the price… cringe…

We turned to see if we could spot Amanda just as she was returning with her arms full of turquoise colored tile samples. She had glass turquoise, ceramic turquoise, teeny squares of turquoise, inch squares of turquoise, and one Lantern Standard line of turquoise. Instantly, Scott was in love! The Lantern Standard line had a Victorian whimsical feel that our modern glass could not convey… It is just too modern.

Amanda gave us prices for each of the tiles. Neither tile was ridiculously expensive.

So we headed home with not just a sample for the bakery, but a sample for the bakery and the primary kitchen. These are our new selections. What do you think…
