Scott Versus Bidet…

Scott and our one working toilet have a new special relationship. I wanted a bidet… not a separate piece of bathroom equipment… first, it is too small a room… second, what a waste of space in this day of modern technology. For those who do not know, Toto, our illustrious toilet maker, also makes bidet toilet seats.

We ordered one just as we arrived which has been sitting in the attic since we arrived. We thought it required a plumber to hook up. Finally, I asked if Glenn had put installing it on his list of tasks to complete. Scott demurred… saying we had a long list of projects that needed attending first. I offered him my saddest face. He decided to look at the box. After taking the time to read the instructions, he learned it did not require a plumber to install. I suggested that maybe it could be hooked up then?

Well, we now have a Toto bidet. I love it! Scott has this new awkward relationship with it. He walks into the bathroom. The toilet lid jumps quickly to attention, lights go on inside and outside the bowl, water starts rinsing the bowl and he waits for John Philp Souza’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever” to strike up! He jumps! He just wanted to wash his hands. If he is very still, the lid will close, but dare he reach for a towel? Pop! And, the whole scenario repeats itself.

He knows if he approaches it very slowly, sometimes he can fool the sneaky seat into not knowing he is there, but then… without warning it pops open, again!

He has started humming John Philp Souza’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever” every time he has been to our bathroom.

He does love the warm seat. But, the rest? Well…
