Update: Here are the wonderful men working on our cottage today…
Things are happening. We are extremely grateful!
Emmy ended up needing three teeth pulled so he/she is needing a bit more pampering. But, other than huffing from the surgery, he/she is doing well.
As many of you know we came to Gloversville with no furniture save two bedroom night stands. We did have a King sized bed and mattress waiting for us, but that was it. If it had not been for our dear friends, Anita and Chris, who live in Pennsylvania, bringing us a love seat, some living room chairs, and other odds and ends we would have had four dining room chairs to sit on. And, Debbie, one of our new Gloversville friends… who used to live in this very home, brought us a housewarming basket with a couple of plates, some silverware, napkins, and some doggie treats. Debbie’s sister, Susan, sent us a beautiful bouquet of flowers to brighten our sparse surroundings. With those wonderful gifts we had enough to survive.
But, this past weekend we hoped to pick up the first piece of “our” furniture for our someday living room from another Estate sale… an exquisite demilune.
The sale was scheduled to start at eleven, but by the time we arrived it was crowded with people. I held my breath and hoped our prime objective was still there, but before I ever found it, I saw a lovely cherry wood jewelry tower chest in mint condition.
The price was beyond reasonable. I asked them to hold it for us and headed back to find “my desired” table. There it was, right next to an antique Coke Cola machine, which distracted me. (We have a friend in Hawaii who loves anything “Coke Cola.”) Knowing we could not ship it to Hawaii, I returned to my primary purpose. The demilune was also in such excellent condition. I feared the price would be exorbitant. But, it was meant to be that we would have our first official piece of furniture.
As I left to pay for our two finds, Scott was left to struggle with how to fit them in Baby Girl. We were thinking… two trips? But, those men at the sale had loaded a lot of furniture into small cars. They slipped both the Jewelry tower and the demilune into the car lickety-split.
I was still in the sale area. As I was writing the check for our treasures, I spotted a huge copper candy kettle. You just don’t see those any more. Cringing… knowing we could never afford it… I still asked. It wasn’t pennies, but it wasn’t impossible either. I asked Scott what he thought. He could see I was hoping he would agree we could bring it home… and he asked, “Where could we put it? The car is full.”
“Under my feet in front?” I offered.
“Let’s go for it?” he said.
So with my feet in the candy bowl, we headed home, our car filled with treasures, my heart overflowing with joy, at our finds and Scott delighted we had found such bargains…
