Buttoning up…

Now that our basement work is complete, we can button up our sweet cottage. New windows are now installed in the sewing room, the laundry room, one in our second floor bedroom, one for the future upstairs bathroom, one in the red room on the third floor that had been shot by a bullet while our cottage sat empty, three windows for the dining room, and one in the primary kitchen.

Yes, windows are in my sewing room. The ceiling drywall is completed. A few more tweaks and we can paint. The ceiling will be Fresh Cotton White, while the walls will be the Valspar’s Helio Prism, one of the palest of pinks. As soon as the room is partially organized a cushion for the window seat will be in the making, then curtains…

Scott, bless his heart, finished putting insulated foil in the primary kitchen and moved onto installing mineralized wool for insulation. Starting today sheet rock will be going onto the walls. Glenn, our plumber, put the vent in the primary kitchen so the ceiling will be installed as soon as the walls are in place. Walls, ceilings, floors, oh my… our primary kitchen will be ready for cabinets, appliances, countertops, and cooking, and will be buttoned up….

But, John Herrlett, my dream cabinet maker, from Herrl Woodcraft can not start making the cabinets for our primary kitchen for about another three weeks. The primary kitchen cabinets should be ready to be installed about the middle of December, then in about another month we will have our counter tops installed. So… by the end of January we should have one functioning kitchen with our bakery following close behind. By Spring we should have two functioning kitchens.

As with our heating and air conditioning, much of what needs to be done with plumbing is correcting all the errors that were made by Patrick. Water lines were not put in properly. They are having to be redone almost completely.

But, we have a beautiful basement with a whimsical egress and our cottage is healing…
