Chilly…

It just took one chilly morning, when the temperatures weren’t really “that cold” for me to realize that I do not own a coat for the approaching winter weather. Nor do I own gloves for the weather ahead. By mid morning, the realization hit… I better find or purchase something to keep me warm.

People had suggested places to buy warm winter clothes, but it was still warm weather. I had put off buying anything because I kept thinking my sewing room would be ready. I could make my own coat.

It didn’t make sense to spend a lot of money on a coat, when down the road I was going to make my own. So off we went to Target. At this point all I cared about was something to keep me warm. We found a jacket that works for medium cold weather. It’s obvious it will not work for subzero weather. But, it will do for now.

Then I needed something to warm my hands. Don’t own any gloves! Well, we live in Gloversville. They used to make two thirds of the world’s gloves. So famous years ago, Gloversville is mentioned in “The Job” by Sinclair Lewis. Surely, there was someplace we could buy an every day pair of gloves. We looked and looked online. We found one number that was disconnected. We found a different number with a live recording and an address.

Off we headed to Gloversville and Glove City, Leathers where we found the most delightful group of women making gloves. They helped us make informed choices for the gloves. One pair of mittens, suggested for very cold weather and two pair of deer skin gloves were my final decision

The next day we returned to buy Scott a couple of pair of work gloves for cold weather. For those of you wondering, Scott already owns a warm jacket and a warm pair of dress gloves…

Of course since purchasing our warm clothes, we have had unseasonably warm weather. Here it is almost the end of October and most days are still reaching the 70s…
