2017 Update…

This will be our last blog until 2018… Wow! Hard to believe 2018 is just around the corner… This has been quite a year. When we arrived in April, we only had heat in our third-floor bedroom. Here it is December 2017 and we only have heat in our third floor bedroom…

For those of you concerned, Bert and his sons are working to attach all the necessary parts to a new furnace to heat the first two floors. Other than our bedroom and the bathroom on the second floor that has an electric heater, this house is quite chilly. But, we are warm in our attic hideaway. We are safe.

Patrick struck again! If Patrick had known what he was doing and had been willing to do it, we would have had heat. Let me give you an idea what an inadequate job Patrick St. Pierre of Efficient Heating and Cooling Services did… the heater he put in… that was supposed to heat this whole house… was designed to run hot water and could possibly warm one or two other rooms. So when it turned cold? Then… our cottage was left in the cold… But now, we must have a proper furnace installed to warm the first two floors or freeze…

Several of you have asked about our snow. Since I blogged about the snow, the weather has been very cooperative… We have received snow flurries almost every single day! We are so enjoying our white ground!

The countertop for our primary kitchen has been templated. Mike, the owner of Granite and Marble Works, came on Friday… What a precious man! First thing he did was give me a great big bear hug! The next thing he did was check very quickly what I needed in the kitchen; then, told me to please go to a warm room. Today Skye is in the process of cutting our stone. If everything goes well we should have a functioning kitchen by the middle of January. We still have plumbing that has to go into our primary kitchen after the countertop is laid.

But we did go down to John’s, of Herrl Woodcraft on Friday to see the layout of our bakery… I absolutely love it! It’s entirely different from the primary kitchen. Our primary kitchen is to be warm, romantic, and inviting… our bakery is intended to be whimsical, yet… inviting. One almost done.. One to complete…

Scott is figuring out the layout for the framing of the bakery. Because again, we’re installing tin ceilings. The ceiling in the bakery will be pewter. Plus the canned lights need to be installed before he can put up the pewter tiles. And everyone is under a time crunch because John is making our cabinets.

Randy is here today closing in the laundry room pipes. Yay! They took the walls and ceiling down in our secondary bedroom so Scott can install insulation to keep us warm… Then, Joe, Randy and Dave can put up the drywall.

Poor Scott! Ceilings in the bakery… insulation in the bedroom… ice on the sidewalks… two rooms… one sidewalk… One Scott…

Hope to see all of you next year…
