NO… not the walls… but the CEILING came tumbling down… Surprise! Yesterday, there I was minding my own business, going through my step session in our bedroom… when BOOM! CRASH!
It sounded as if the cottage had fallen down! Right inside our home… My first concern was… is Scott safe… are Joe and Randy safe… I opened the bedroom door with great trepidation… not sure if the pups and I were the last surviving members of our cottage… not sure what I would find…
It turned out, that all the pounding taking place in our cottage… the constant shaking and pounding… caused already bulging ceiling plaster to crash in our stairwell. The echo affect made it much louder than the amount of plaster implied (only three full buckets). But, everyone was safe. All we could think was… thank goodness no one was in the stairwell at that moment. We had hoped we could just secure the plaster back into the ceiling, but that plan is now irrelevant… Poor Scott… stopped his planned project and spent the rest of the day pulling down loose plaster and screwing lathe securely into beams.
Now to the “little things” happening in our cottage… reminds me of the the song “My Favorite Things”… except for me, it’s those ‘little’ things that are turning our construction zone into a partial home… and those little things are my favorite things…
Our first floor bathroom is drywalled! Mudding, sanding, painting… then, ceramic floors go down… one step closer to becoming a bath and a half home.
Stairs… the stairs needed on the inside of our house to access the basement are built. Joe and Randy understood that stairs could be extra dangerous for me because of my limited vision. Therefore, they made several accommodations. No spiral stairs… and wider platforms for each step… These stairs will have railings on both sides of the stairs so if I am carrying something I have a choice of which railing to hold.
And, an update on the Tuscan Teal… the second coat that was to be applied Tuesday…. Shifted to Wednesday…
Our Celtic rosettes arrived. Now the molding around the windows can be stained and installed.
And, to my sewing… one panel for the upstairs bedroom is almost complete. I will be glad when all the panels our up, not just because they will block the chilly air, but they will block the street lights when we sleep. Circadian rhythm cycles do not flow well with lots of ambient lights…
