Update Kitchen…

In my book, vertigo is a curse word! I have been devoid of posting anything for the last week, because vertigo attacked my system for the first time in almost twenty years. I am still dealing with mild vertigo, but compared to the last week… it’s virtually nothing.

Update on our activities… Sorting of our primary kitchen paraphernalia is progressing. Obviously, because of the vertigo attack, it was delayed by a week. Also, because of my low vision, I am struggling to decide where in the kitchen favorable placement of my spices, herbs, vinegars, oils, powders, sweeteners, and other food items feel most comfortable for me. So it is a process of sensing, feeling, perceiving, then proceeding with placement. At the moment, placement of the vinegars and oils has been decided. They will go in our Lazy Susan.

Our Lazy Susan… that was another fun challenge to figure out how to make functional for my specific needs. If we set the bottles in loosely, when I turn the Lazy Susan, the loose bottles could tip, slide, and fall out unless I am extremely careful. Well, folks, I have been known on occasion to reach for a bottle without much forethought. Besides, lady with poor vision… bottles sliding hither and yon… tipping out… I see an episode of “Lucy” in the making, I might spend all day attempting to find, catch, pick-up, or clean up… what I need to complete one tiny step in my cooking process. But, we discovered Lazy Susan organizers. They hold a few items in specific locations with high walls to prevent tips.

Taking off labels… those lovely labels describing the item just purchased… lovely labels that resent giving up their assigned duty… When we had Josh, I mostly ignored labels. Not because I thought they added to the overall aesthetics of our home, but functionality was our primary purpose and we never knew when we would be rushing to care for a medical emergency. Now, I have the time to remove labels… adjustments…a melange of joy and sorrow…
