Fireplaces… Almost…

Today, there are no thoughts regarding renovations, or the lack thereof, as far as my body is concerned; but renovations in our cottage are advancing… so let us reflect on what is happening in the moment.

Scott’s list of projects is longer than he is tall. Poor guy, he starts on a project. I stop him to finish a teeny project I need completed, so I can move forward with my pittance projects. He has had to do so many stops and starts, he’s not sure if he’s coming or going. But, he is in the process of laying the Ditra for the tile in the first floor bathroom, the hallway, and mudroom.

Again, though it is good news, his efforts to complete a project are waylaid by other people’s needs for access to the area where he plans to lay tile.

Bert’s recovery from the flu and pneumonia left him struggling, for quite a while, to return to work. But, now he is ready! Yay! He and his boys will be here Thursday, Friday, and, if necessary, Saturday to finish correcting our heating glitches and install our AC before the weather becomes so warm, we melt. Of course that means Bert and his sons need access to the hallway to the mudroom. Sigh… Poor, Scott… tile laying put on hold… shifted to a different project, AGAIN!

Now that the weather has warmed and the gas pipes for our fireplaces are in completed, those illusive fireplaces can be installed. Pine Lake Stoves arrived and installed two, of the three ordered fireplaces in our cottage yesterday. When they put the lining in the first chimney, they found it full of leaves, twigs and years of debris. Point to remember… none of the fireplaces have been used in over eight years. The second chimney, not near trees, fared much better. But, they poked, prodded, pulled and pushed until both chimneys were clean… ready for liners.

Then, they installed the fireplace for the living room and our future second floor bedroom… with the exception of the cowling for the bedroom fireplace. And, we need Steve to finalize the hookup to the breaker box for both fireplaces. So we have two fireplaces in place with just a few remaining snippets to complete…
