Sagging Floors…

Though there is still so much to do, we are making headway. You know those extra support beams we needed in the basement to shore up the center of our cottage: well, we need to place extra support beams on the first floor too.

Over the years, with different projects, the support beam for the second floor was compromised in several spots, causing the floor in our future closet to sage about two to three inches.

It is quite a complex problem that Scott was going to tackle, but I encouraged (begged) him to have Butch Woolsey look at it. Then… extended my persuasive powers to have him ask Butch to shore it up for us. We are talking about needing jacks and braces to raise the ceiling so proper supports can be put in place… a two man job and Scott is my Super Guy, but has not developed the ability to clone himself. Tomorrow Butch and his helper will be here to tackle our sagging floor/ceilings.

The second floor has all the coils for our radiant heat in place. Our wonderful heating team moved to the first floor on Friday to finish re-coiling the living room. Today, Bert’s sons are re-coiling the foyer and tea room… Tomorrow? Those brave young men will be crawling under the kitchen floor to replace those coils and attach the primary kitchen toe kick heater.

On the second floor, you will notice foil bubble wrap hanging down. That is because I asked Scott to leave all the recently removed ceilings down and finish our second floor bedroom and closet. Then, he can return to restoring the rest of the ceiling’s insulation and dry wall…
