Fun Contemplation… Philes…

Scott decided I was a pluviophile because I love rain and find deep levels of joy and peace of mind during rainy days. He is correct!

People who think they understand people’s foibles say a pluviophile is happier than most people. I am a pretty happy person.

Those same people presume it is because a pluviophile sees the beauty, serene, and calming qualities in rain.

Plus, think of all the songs that celebrate rain:
“Singing in the Rain”
“Have You Ever Seen the Rain”
“November Rain”
“Who’ll Stop the Rain?”
“Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”
“I Love a Rainy Night”
“Kentucky Rain”
“Rainy Days and Monday’s”
And, “Laughter in the Rain”

Rain nourishes the earth… the flowers, grass and trees… Rain provides water for our streams and rivers.

Without the water from rain, we could not survive. Apparently, we are happier because we appreciate the value of rain in nature and in life; but I take issue with that. I believe that even people not fond of rain understand and appreciate rain’s value to life.

We all know the saying: “A little rain never hurt anybody.”

However, some people do get their feathers ruffled by rain and refuse to go out in it. But, birds find ruffling their feathers in light rains an opportunity for a refreshing cleansing… rather than their usual dust baths…

A pluviophile will never let rain stand in the way of a good time. Pluviophiles know how to make the best of rain at an outdoor event or find other activities to do when rain may keep us indoors for the day. While others may stress about weather and how rain may affect their plans, a pluviophile knows they can make the best of a situation no matter what kind of weather arises.

Sound and music manufacturers use rain as a backdrop to help people relax and sleep: rain is a soothing, peaceful sound. Pluviophiles are able to calm themselves through the chaos of stressful and difficult rainy days. Pluviophiles see the value in staying in and reading a book, playing a game, or simply doing nothing at all.

Scott on the other hand is a Ceraunophile… a person who loves lightning and thunder. Though I also love lightning and thunder, I may not be quite as obsessed with the joys of the flashes and booms as Scott is.

At this point, Scott and I wondered how many love affairs with different objects we had…

This is a list of our discoveries.

Autophile.
A person who loves solitude, being alone. Both Scott an I love solitude… together ?

Bibliophile.
A person who collects or has a great love of books. I have lost and given away thousands of books. Now with my limited vision the majority of my books are either in my Nook or Kindle apps. How many books are on both programs? Last count was over ten thousand books…

Chionophile.
A person who finds comfort in cold weathers. Anyone who doubts my love of cold weather and snow has not met me… Scott tolerates cold and snow with a tender spirit because he loves me…

Clinophile.
A lover of reclining, lying in bed.

Cynophile.
A person who loves canines, a dog lover. Anyone who knows our puppies knows the answer to this one.

Dendrophile.
A person who loves forests and trees. I have been known to talk to and even hug trees.

Limnophile.
A person who loves lakes. Trusting that lakes probably includes rivers and streams since they are interconnected… I qualify as a limnophile…

Logophile.
A person who is a lover of words. Words that have cute meanings are my absolute favorites… i.e., taradiddle and wibbly-wobbly are two of my favorites. Recently I was reminded of gloaming… my momma used gloaming quite often… so many words just slip away. Sigh…

Nyctophile.
A person who loves night, darkness. I love winter’s short days…

Retrophile.
A person who loves artifacts and aesthetics from the past. Ask Scott! ?

Selenophile.
A person who loves the moon. Well, after all we are women and our sister lives there…

Thalassophile.
A lover of the sea, someone who loves the sea, ocean. Rain on the ocean is heaven on earth… as long as you are not in a storm…

Have any of you thought about your own ‘philes’?

We are sure there are more…
