Another of our garden bed stories? Not at the moment… Instead I decided to explain our overall concept for the back yard. Since the yard is what we have most control over at the moment, it is where I am having the pleasure of planning and experimenting.
I am placing a tax map of our property so you can see to what lot I am referring. It is the lot named “Other Lot”… the lot with the number 10 in the middle.
We have decided that shade plants will be placed along the fence line between 9 and 10 as the back of lot number 9 has been left vacant and is full of tall trees. Somewhere in the future we will explain the choices of our shade plants in greater detail. Maybe by then we will have some pictures too!
Along the fence on Second Avenue we will have the raspberry beds with all their companion plants… you know the background of those beds so I will not reiterate.
In the middle of our back lot Scott plans on building a gazebo where we will relax in the evening, dine, or both. This will probably be our primary location during the warmer months.
We will lay broad brick walkways around the yard that eventually will fill in with creeping thyme. Between the walkways the spaces will be filled with lots of different flower, herb, and vegetable companion beds.
This is a rough sketch of how far we have planned so far. So now, if you are driving through Gloversville and see a yard with this design, it just might be us…
