So many of you have asked, been amazed, appalled, concerned, and delighted that we are moving to Gloversville after living in the tropics for over half a century. Why Gloversville? Well, on this International Day of Happiness seems the perfect time to address those questions…
Besides the fact that Josh died and we needed and wanted a dramatic lifestyle change, Gloversville is located in the ideal location for us. It is right at the foot of the beautiful Adirondacks. Near some family and friends and our home is open to the rest of you too. It is time for a new adventure. What is life, if not a happy adventure? Besides, I am part of that adaptive Silent Generation. We adapt… happily…
And, all the Hawaiian Islands are mystical and magical and Gloversville is a small mystical magical village tucked at the foot of the Adirondacks! Mystical and magical you ask? Yes! At least that is what we believe.
Hawai’i’s little people are called Menehunes. They live in the deep forests and hidden valleys of our Islands, coming out to help, usually at night. Sometimes they cause mischief. In today’s world we miss so much magic because we are too busy. But, Menehunes don’t care if we are too busy. They continue to enjoy their dancing, singing and archery though we ignore them. And, if you happen to leave out their favorite foods… bananas or fish… don’t be surprised if the food disappears by morning. But, don’t be concerned. They are peace loving little folk… and, are romantic like Cupid. If a Menehune is around when you become angry or upset, don’t be surprised if you feel a tug or prick in your heart. They don’t like anyone to be upset and use magic arrows to pierce the hearts of those upset people they like. They just want you to shift from anger to feelings of peace and love.
Now in and around the Adirondacks live all sorts of faeries, elves, wee folk, brownies, leprechauns, other little folk, and possibly Hobbits. How do I know this? My mother told me! When I was a child and we lived in Gloversville, Mama assured me that some brownies lived in our garden. She told me that if I was very gentle and quiet I might see one. But, to not move suddenly as they are terribly shy. Though I never saw one, as I was a very active child, Mama assured me they were there.
Today there are Faerie Festivals taking place all over upstate New York, Ithaca, Rochester, Ouaquaga located just east of Binghamton has a three-day festival, Lewiston, Patterson, and the Sterling Renaissance Festival in Sterling, New York is one of the oldest events in the world that celebrates the English Renaissance era.
So we are leaving one mystical and magical island and going to, not only a mystical and magical village, but a mystical magical state… We hope that the fruit, vegetable, flower, and herb gardens we plant will assure whatever fairies, elves, wee folk, brownies, leprechauns, other little folk, and possibly Hobbits that they are welcome to visit. And, I sit still quietly for longer periods of time now. Who could ask to dream for more on this International Day of Happiness…
