Arriving…

When we left Chicago it was in the midsts of a torrential downpour, but we had our rental car, we had our luggage, and we had our precious puppies. We had only seven hundred eighty-four and one half miles to complete this leg of our adventure!

So we drove through Chicago rush hour and torrential rain to start on our way.

We drove through Indiana… SLOWLY! It seemed they were repairing every single bridge along our route. Seventy MPH became, if lucky, forty-five. So we crept through Indiana… losing precious daylight hours…

As soon as we hit the Ohio border the road smoothed and we were really on our way zipping along at a comfortable seventy MPH on a combined I80 and I90 interstates… It seems as if they had road repairs too! But, not as many as Indiana… Then, somewhere around Elyria, Ohio we missed a split in the combined interstates. We were gleefully zipping along I80 with a missing I90 sign. By the time it dawned on us we were almost to Youngstown, Ohio. OOPS! Wrong direction… We found Route 11 which took us north to reconnect with I90. Before we knew it we were on the correct path again…

Pennsylvania loomed ahead… could we make it before nightfall? Even more challenging… could we make the edge of New York State? Well, we crossed the Pennsylvania border and decided to stop at the first rest stop with lodging once we crossed into New York…

We reached the New York border just as dusk was about to arrive. We were tired and did not want to drive in the dark, but… it turns out that the western lower edge of New York State is pretty sparsely populated. So as we watched the sun sink lower and lower we watched anxiously for a lodging sign… FINALLY! LODGING! We just wanted a motel willing to accept two puppies and a warm room… GUESS WHAT? That is exactly what we got! A warm room and a place willing to accept our puppies… I will not name the motel chain involved because we have stayed in ones that were perfectly fine, but this motel room was anything but fine… But, we were warm after about thirty minutes and the puppies had a place to sleep. Scott and I managed to get about six hours sleep on top of the bedspread… enough rest to be able to tackle the next day’s drive. So at six the next morning we reloaded the car, reloaded the puppies, and headed on the last leg of our journey to our new home…

At twelve thirty-three we pulled into the driveway of our new home!

We are in Gloversville! It is cold! It is rainy! And… Snow is still on the ground! We LOVE it! The air is crisp and clear… the rivers are running high… the ground is saturated… but Spring is pushing its way forward… and so are we…
