Retirement…

Scott is retired! March 31 was his last day of official work. We have been counting down the days for weeks… then it was here before we knew it… both for retirement and our move. We are looking forward to the next phase, but leaving work was so bittersweet. Assets has been Scott’s second life almost as long as we have been married. He is going through two major loses in less than six months. But, looking forward to our new adventure helps with both losses.

This is the first time in our marriage we will have time for each other. It is a good thing we like each other!

Scott has always had a love of woods and carving and working with wood any way he can. During the last twenty-eight years he has not had a single opportunity to follow his passion, yet he has never complained. In Gloversville… in our beautiful Victorian cottage… he can restore, alter, refurbish, and build to his heart’s content.

To make sure he has all the tools he needs his disposal we are purchasing him Shopsmith’s MARK 7 machine. He will have a 10″ Table Saw, 34″ Lathe, 12″ Disc Sander, 16-1/2″ Vertical Drill Press, Over/Under-Table Router, Over/Under Table Shaper, and Horizontal Boring Machine and plenty of other gadgets to accomplish whatever he wants. Though he has a large three car garage to use we love that the Shopsmith itself only takes up a two-foot by six-foot space. Leaving plenty of room for all his projects. Besides the ones he has decided to tackle, I have requested one or two others.

So, besides his Shopsmith, I surprised him with the first of his hand wood-working tools he has ha in a very long time… a 6-Piece Chisel Set with Custom Leather Roll made by Two Cherries. He is going to need them and more to accomplish his growing list. But, this provides a start to his hand held collection.

So it is with sadness he leaves all his wonderful friends at Assets, but we so hope each of you plan to make vacations to visit Upper New York State, The Adirondack Park and make our home in Gloversville your base during your visit. The Adirondack Region is the largest publicly protected area in the Mainland USA boasting old-growth and second generation forests that are home to large varieties of wildlife and birds.

So though Scott is sad to leave Assets he is and we are, moving to a beautiful home in a beautiful area that will offer a multitude of new adventures…
