To start… Scott and I needed to go to our bank today in the lower part of New York State… to a teeny town called Highland Falls, New York. It is located between fifty and sixty miles north of New York City. After we left the freeway, we went through several small towns that became smaller and more remote the further we went. Finally climbing a very high remote mountain and descending the other equally remote side, we reached our destination. We both were surprised when, as we pulled into the bank, that we were also at the entrance to West Point Military Academy. I knew it was supposed to be in a very secluded secure area, but driving into the adjoining town we realized how very secluded it is. It was a wonderful lesson in learning first hand, a bit of the geography and history of our new state.
And for those of you praying for clear skies so we are able to have our new roof started today… well to be honest, today they started removing the layers and layers of roofing that had been added for the last one hundred eleven years. That may sound like an exaggeration, but Jeremiah found original cedar shingles still remaining in some areas. They worked all day removing the old roof through occasional threatening thunder and lighting in the area. After all day they have less than half the old roof removed. We pray tomorrow will offer clear skies once again.
And on a personal note: Still adjusting to living in a more northern region of the country, it was fun to wake this morning to a temperature of 49 degrees at the end of June. Wish we could send some of our cool weather to our friends in those sections of the country suffering from extreme heat…
