Our roof installation and Mother Nature are in disagreement as to who should prevail. Rain, precipitation, raindrops, wet weather; drizzle, showers, rainstorms, cloudbursts, torrents, downpours, deluges, storms, and thunderstorms have prevailed day after day after day… Bringing Jeremiah to a standstill. But, on a favorable note… our plants are delighted… as are we for our plants…
Bilbo door (Bilco)(refer to post on January 25, 2017), our whimsical Bilbo door, is not the most practical for this area of the country. Our snow accumulation over the winter is so great that it would put constant pressure on the doors, possibly eliminating an escape route should one be necessary.
With a proper basement door similar to this, but matching our cottage’s exterior, we have met the need for a basement egress while maintaining the exterior style of our cottage. My hope is that we can place it peeking up between the two windows next to the side door. An aspect of whimsical stair step roofs would be achieved, an escape route if needed, as well as our basement egress.
Guess what popped up in our back yard? Four producing strawberry plants… Scott transferred them to a planter until we find a permanent location for them. Our yard is full of surprises just waiting to be discovered.
And we have started two tiny bay laurel trees so we will have lovely bay leaves for our stews, soups, and sauces. Fresh leaves are fine for long simmered foods, but dry works better for quick dishes. So we will always have a couple dry leaves in the freezer for those meals that need just the slightest hint of bay complexity. Please don’t fret that these trees are tiny, bay laurel grows quickly…
