Well, folks, we have reached the longest day of the year! We will enjoy every day of warmth as we push to button our home up for the inevitable winter that will come… ready or not. I feel as if we are in the middle of Aesop’s fable of The Ants and the Grasshopper. Not for the food, though still no place for storage or no kitchen to prepare any food… but just sealing up the house so we don’t freeze.
Bill, Mark’s son, and his crew from The Climate Chief spent the last two days putting up the preliminary shields for the AirKrete that will be blown in as soon as we have a new roof. But, poor Jeremiah from Wiedermann Sons, our roofing contractor’s, have had to dodge too many raindrops to install new roofs. They are running a bit behind schedule thanks to Mother Nature’s determination to water our newly planted yard vegetation. Today is supposed to be sunny, but at the moment clouds are hanging around the area.
Also, update on our basement… We spoke to a local mason. His love is restoring rough hewn stone basements. He is supposed to return in a few days to measure and give us a quote what our cost will be to have it repaired. The problem is… he is so in demand that he won’t be able to start until August or September. We need to see how much he says we can do with the inside of our house before he starts. As I have said too many times since we have arrived here… it is one step forward… No, wait! We need to fix this first. Sigh…
