Oh sigh… The needed basement repairs have thrown a wrinkle in our timeline and have required us to once again alter our plans. Completion dates for everything have definitely been shifted around. Meaning our much needed draperies might not be ready for the approaching winter. And not having luxuriously thick draperies to pull shut over nasty winter winds could mean our heating system will be working overtime.
So Scott and I decided we are going ahead and ordering the sewing table I need for making the draperies. Steve and Larry are here today completing the lighting and outlets for the sewing room and the new master bedroom. Then during our next few rainy days, Scott will install the reflective foil over the heat transfer plates, then, finish up by installing R-30 insulation over all the heat transfer and reflective conductors. So, with the exception of the drywall to finish the ceiling, the sewing room will be completed. Once Scott has all the layers of insulation in place and the new sewing cabinet arrives and is set up, sewing will commence. We plan to protectively cover the sewing table long enough for the drywall ceiling to be installed once the foundation of our home has been stabilized.
So today we went to the Gloversville Sewing Center to purchase our Koala sewing cabinet. One of the most wonderful aspects the Koala sewing cabinets has is that they can manufactured three or six inches higher than a normal sewing cabinet. Because I am legally blind, I need my work close to my face! With normal tables I am hunched over all the time. By raising the table and having a magnifying glass that attaches to my sewing machine, my extreme hunching will be lessened… preventing back strain and an old age dowager’s hump.
The Koala Artisan Quiltmate Plus IV. sewing cabinet has a power lift for raising and lowering the sewing machine (the Bernini 770 weighs about 35 pounds). The sewing cabinet will have an outback leaf to accommodate the long stretches of drapery material. And there is a leaf on each end… one of those leaves has built in indentations to accommodate miscellaneous sewing items. This sewing cabinet has it all! It should arrive about the middle of July.
Then we went to Ruby and Quiri to look for an easy chair when tackling hand work. I knew I wanted a chair that would accommodate our puppies as well as sewing so was thinking cushy. Scott, bless his seeing eye husband heart, reminded me that when working long hours I like to prop my feet up… he recommended I consider a recliner. Practical man that he is… and thoughtful husband to boot… I knew he was absolutely correct. So we found a very smooth material that would compliment our golden teak sewing cabinet with its wine colored chair. It should be delivered about the middle of August.
Between our cam lights, comfortable sewing chair, Koala Artisan Quiltmate Plus IV sewing cabinet with its own wine colored chair, and our other sewing room accommodations, the prospect of sewing and knowledge it will really happen before the end of summer is exhilarating…
