Puppies…

Sunday, we had another road trip. But, this time we took the puppies. We knew it was supposed to reach ninety and though we now have air conditioning on our third floor, we still do not have insulation in place. With the air conditioning it is not reaching the boiling point, but still quite uncomfortable. (For those wondering… we need the new roof on before the insulation so no unwanted nails pierce the insulation and render it less effective.) We keep living with the domino effect for all our projects.

Back to the puppies! We did not want them left alone for our six hour road trip; nor did we want them to be in a room that could be sweltering. So we installed their puppy seat cover (in case of any possible accidents) and their harnesses to attach to their vests, loaded them in the back seat, turned the AC on full blast, and headed out.

The fields, hills, valleys, and dales are now fully green. The Mohawk River is full and moving through the lands with its fierce determination to reach the Hudson River. And, our puppies were not sure they liked the idea of a road trip.

Please note: their experience with road trips is to the groomer… to the vet… and one long arduous trip from Chicago to Gloversville. So they grumbled rather vehemently until we passed the vet… and continued grumbling for about the next hour. Emmy grumbled because she wanted to be on Mom’s lap. Happy is more excepting of our requests so after about thirty minutes she curled up and went to sleep.

Three hours later, in 91 degree weather, we arrived at Bristol Garden Center. While I ran in to pick up the plants, Scott gave the pups a chance to stretch their legs.

All they wanted to know was, “Where is our Mommy?”

Scott says they asked every single person who passed and, if no one was there, they strained in the direction where I had so mysteriously disappeared. He finally told them “We will just wait in the car with the AC running. Mom will be back soon.”

A lovely young lady helped me every step of the way. We found Mr. Lincoln and Pope John Paul roses, a glorious white poppy, borage to plant near my tomatoes, and oxalis and petunias to put around our magnolia and flowering cherry tree. Finding the plants took about ten minutes… checking out another fifteen. Bristol Garden Center is the busiest nursery I have ever seen. But, it is easy to understand why. Their plants are thriving and they guarantee they will live at least one year.

When we arrived home we were very glad we had brought the puppies with us. Outside was still a blistering 90 and the attic, while not boiling, was definitely steaming…
