Since shortly after our arrival, we have not had access to the side door of our house. When the building inspector came to inspect the plumbing, he also informed us that our side steps were not safe and needed to be removed… immediately! Now this is the only door that has a key. So here we are in our
“needs to be renovated” cottage with crime scene tape across our side door and no steps… Well, Joe and Randy came, built lovely new steps, and pulled down our crime scene tape. Now we have steps anyone can use to the side of our home. One more repair completed with the exception of painting them. We decided the risers should be painted the same frost white our cottage will be painted some day and the top of the steps the same onyx black as our roof
Basement update… It is a disaster! We need to pull out all the wooden walls… then they can gives an accurate cost to repair it. And, the garage? It needs the existing floor removed so it can be leveled. So, one more setback…
On the bright side… our six blueberry plants arrived. We purchased six different varieties because they say that blueberries produce more fruit when they cross pollinate.
One of our bushes is the Chandler Blueberry, It is supposed to produce the biggest blueberries that are sweet and juicy.
The Chippewa Blueberry produces large quantities of firm sweet sky blue berries. Then, in the fall its dark green foliage turns a brilliant orange-red.
The Blueray Blueberry is the largest berry on the market! It has very sweet, light blue fruits that resist cracking. The harvest goes on for weeks. This is one of the plants we are supposed to plant with at least two other blueberry varieties to ensure adequate cross-pollination.
Then, the Bluecrop Blueberry produces big clusters of large, all-purpose berries that thrives especially well in our colder climate.
The Climax Blueberry produces huge tightly crowded clusters of berries that contain as many as 100 medium size berries per cluster.
And, the Garden Blue Blueberry is a vigorous grower that produces a medium fruit.
So there are our six types of blueberries. They have plenty to cross-pollinate with so should be very happy plants.
Also, our three hazelnuts arrived and are in the ground. Now we must just wait for nature to take its course.
And, we added a hummingbird vine to our wisteria arbor so by next year the arbor should have an overabundance of flowers, hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees!
And, just to round things off we added a red weigela to our array of flowers by the front of the house…
