Complete…

The roof on the house is completely replaced!
Shingles on the dormers that were in complete disrepair have been removed and replaced!

The roof on the garage is complete!

Friday, half… yes half… of our AirKrete insulation from The Climate Chief has been blown into our attic. Of course it was installed on the “other half” not on the side we are living. So we still felt some of the heat of the afternoon, but (1) it was slightly cooler and (2) even though it was the “other half” it somewhat helped with the accumulation of heat.

Our chimney on the North side of the house needs some extensive patch work. Jeremiah has a wonderful chimney repair man, Mark Rodriguez, who restores old chimneys like new while keeping their old character. He has been working on our chimney for several days now. It amazes us how he matches the old bricks and mortar so you would never guess there had been any repairs.

Saturday morning we spent an hour with John Herrlett of Herrl Woodcraft in their workshop going over concepts for both our primary kitchen and bakery. Oh my, it is as if he can read my mind. He has conceived the kitchens exactly as I see them in my head. Within a few weeks we should have final plans.

Then, we drove to a textile company we had seen the previous day to see what they had available… but to our great disappointment they had closed down and were no longer in business. So looking elsewhere for material options.

It was a busy Sunday…

Earlier in the week we had made a journey to our Amsterdam’s Lowes to correct an online vanity order for our first floor half bath and (sadly) to replace the vanity in the second floor bathroom. Well, Amsterdam had the mirror and faucets, but only one vanity. We needed to go to Glenview to purchase the vanities. We needed to return home to open the house for arriving workmen, so decided to make the trip later in the afternoon. Then, I decided to put my brain into gear and placed the order over the phone… saving an excursion to Glenview. Well, they delivered our two teeny vanities yesterday.

At the same time Don Savoie, owner of Adirondack Wood Floor Co. delivered our red oak (with character)

so it can acclimate to its new home for several weeks before being installed. We have included pictures of the actual flooring with the ceiling and counter top tiles for both the primary kitchen and bakery.

So we can now show progress on the outside of our home. The interior, with the exception of insulation, is waiting for its turn to be revitalized…

All pictures, and several up and down trips, credited to Scott…
