Scott was filling the existing cracks between tiles in the downstairs bathroom with black grout. (First of all, it’s between five and ten years since Scott has done “any” grouting. Our last twenty years was such a blur, we can’t give you a more accurate timeline.) Regardless, cracks need to be filled.
Problem! The last time Scott did work with grout it was a neutral color. This time the grout is an obsidian black. After filling one or two tiles, Scott came running upstairs.
“This grout is different than anything I have ever worked with. It stains everything it touches black,” he sighed.
Time for YouTube advice. After watching several videos of other people using obsidian black grout, he felt confident to return to the task at hand.
You can see the spots where the obsidian black grout launched itself onto the wall that will need touching up, but overall, Scott prevailed.
Our quarter round ceramic trim arrived early. We picked it up Thursday last week. Scott spent all weekend grouting those tiny edge pieces. They are not like wood quarter rounds, they are hollow inside. The thinset needs to fill the quarter round hollow and the quarter round needs to remain upright, and not slip while the thinset dries. A challenge! But one Scott is up too. He is so meticulous… Next will come the obsidian black grout to seal all edges. Then, last? Touch-up paint…
Glenn is due to install our sink and toilet into the downstairs bathroom sometime this week. Sometime this week we will become an official one and a half bath home. Of course our half bath still doesn’t have a door. But Scott is installing a deadbolt on our back door so no one can enter and surprise us, or be surprised, by a bathroom in use…
