Backyard additions…

We have a dear friend who loves raspberries… well, a gastronomical obsession is really more like it when it comes to raspberries. But, she can’t see herself coming to the East Coast.

We are not above offering enticements. And we have a perfect fence along the side of our back yard that could benefit with some camouflaging. What better way to camouflage a chain link fence than nice prickly raspberry bushes.

Everbearing red raspberries are a self-pollinating berry that has two crops each year. This makes them the perfect enticement for our friend. The crop in July offers a moderate yield but, come September these bushes produce a heavy continuous yield until frost. Its large plump fruit filled with the extra-sweet, juicy fruit flavor and firmness that is beyond temptation to any raspberry gastronomically obsessed person.

Everbearing Raspberries

Along the fence the raspberry bushes will receive the full sunlight they need. The fence will offer the support the bushes need. And, those walking along the sidewalk can pick one or two for a small sweet treat as they go through their day.

Once again, we ordered our raspberries through the Arbor Day Foundation to help support this wonderful organization.

When I was young and Mama and I were on one of our adventures, we went to Nebraska for two things. We spent the day at Father Flanagan’s Boy’s Town in Omaha, Nebraska and we went to Nebraska City, Nebraska to honor J. Sterling Morton who founded Arbor Day. In 1882 Arbor Day was officially declared to be the last Friday in April.

So in honor of Mama and her love for trees, nature in general, and Arbor Day we decided that the trees and bushes that that we want in our yard will be purchased through the Arbor Foundation.
