Sinks, again…

Oh my… I was going to continue talking about our appliance choices today, but I just couldn’t! Well, I guess I am because kitchen sinks are an appliance of sorts. But, to me… the sinks in our cottage need to be works of art!

I mentioned in an earlier blog (12/19/16) about our kitchen sink search and how we were hoping to purchase our real copper sinks from Rachiele Sinks http://www.rachiele.com in Apopka, Florida.

Well, this morning I had a lovely conversation with Dino, who is Rachiele sinks, and we discussed my options. Dino is so patient and enthusiastic about his sinks. His love for each sink he makes is infectious!

First we must decide whether to purchase one or two sinks. Our kitchen in Gloversville will be much larger than our kitchen here in Honolulu, but even it has its limitations. And, I love to be near my hubby as much as possible. So, given those perimeters, we decide on one larger sink rather than two.

If we choose an apron, under mount, or signature sink we can choose lengths from 30 inches to 60 inches. So now we must decide on a sink length. At the moment we have a thirty inch sink that when we are cooking a large meal is swamped and overflowing with pots and pans. So, logically, since we are moving to a larger home and plan to be cooking even more… a larger sink seems in order. Besides washing all the pots and pans we will use the sink for food prep. Hmmmmm… Food prep… dirty pots and pans… thirty-six inches sounds doable, but would probably be still a quite squeeze… after a bit of back and forth, we decide the forty-two inch sink will provide just enough extra space for both of us to achieve a satisfying meal without squishing each other.

But, again, that “options” word that gives us another list a mile long. As I study his site at Rachiele Sinks http://www.rachiele.com., we need to decide if we want an Apron front or Farm style, Under or Top mount or a Trough… then will it be a single, double or triple sink? Other options? We need to decide if we want a drainboard or backsplash attached to our sink… or do we want a truly uniquely designed sink… just for us? Sigh… the choices!

Ruling out a truly uniquely designed sink, the drainboard and backsplash, we decide on an Apron sink that will showcase the beauty of the copper.

What kind of patina do we want on the front? We can choose from nineteen different patina choices including weathered, hammered, oil rubbed bronze, linen, stenciled, or sixty-nine choices of rustic. I want to say weathered is fine because it is beautiful, but my heart is pulled by the stunning rustic patinas… they are truly unique. They will be a work of art for all to enjoy when they enter the kitchen. And, color-wise they match what we want to accomplish with the rest of our kitchen. So rustic it is… now which rustic? None are ever exactly the same (yay!), but there are some basic patterns that will be closely achieved. I am going to post a few we like and if any of you have an opinion which one strikes your fancy the most, we would appreciate your feedback.

Number 1 This is a combination of earth-tones, blues, black, oranges, greens and light blue.

Number 2 Black and earth tone patina on copper

Number 3 Smoky Sunset – This is a combination of natural aging and alcohol stains. Blacks and Reds, orange, browns and a touch of white dominate this patina

Number 4 This totally organic masterpiece deserves to be looked at closely to see the details in this amazing work of art.
