Walkways…

As all of you know… we plan to have gardens. What many of you do not know, is we want to food scape all our property (front and back) and that will entail walkways. Should the walkways be straight and rigid or curvy and inviting?

Since we invite all, it really isn’t a question or option. They must be curvy. Actually, our biggest question is… should all walkways be made of the same materials or offer a variety of textures throughout the gardens? Well, we already have our Hobbit walkway… a potentially beautiful walkway, but not practical for all areas. As George mentioned, the Hobbit walkway will not be easily accessible for people in wheelchairs.

If we make all our walkways through the yard accessible to people in wheelchairs we need a minimum width of thirty-two inches. Could we make some wider than others, but
arrange them in such a way that a person in a wheelchair could still see all our hidden treasures? That is going to be one of our biggest challenges.

Then, what materials should we use to make these walkways… should they be all brick? all stone? all pebbles? all wood? a blend of two or more materials? I am posting some pictures of walkways that caught our eye. And a sheet showing possible brick patterns.

Once again, we would love your opinions. Your opinions really do help us rethink and shift either towards or away from certain choices. Most of all we hope you enjoy our pondering for this last Monday of January 2017.

Walkways

Welcome everyone to our home
Always know you are not alone
Leave your cares and worries too
Know that we will care for you
Warm your hands and your heart
Around our table or our hearth
Yield all your aches and pain
Sending troubles on the wane
