Another estate sale…

Yes, we went to another estate sale! Well, we didn’t go to just one… we went to one on Thursday, two on Friday and a private estate sale on Sunday. I know many of you are wondering, “What is she doing?” We are finding treasures to enjoy in our cottage once it is renovated. We have a huge basement that will store our food and our treasures.

That being said… at our Thursday estate sale we found two adorable cookie jars to add to our cookie jar collection. One actually says “Cookies”. We did find an adorable chip and dip dish which is like a sombrero with an indent in the top of the hat for the dip.

Friday we were in a quandary. We had two estate sales thirty miles apart that both had items we really wanted. First I called to see if there was any chance I could pre-buy. It was no use. I did learn that both items were very reasonably priced. Then I asked if there was any way sold stickers could be put on them. What I did learn is that at the second estate sale…. It started half an hour later than the first one. I could call and charge the moment the sale started..

“What was so precious?” I’m sure you were wondering. Well, as many of you know, I am a dragon. Probably in many ways, ?but I at this moment I am referring to the Chinese Zodiac. We had found another tea set service that had dragons on it. It was absolutely lovely. It was at the sale that started first.

We learned that if we went over the day before we could acquire a number for the next day’s estate sale. Numbers are put out the day before! That’s how people have such good numbers when we arrive early. Now we know the secret! So we hopped in Baby Girl and zipped right over to Troy, New York. Did we have numbers one or two? Nooo! We didn’t even have three or four, but we did have five and six. That meant we could arrive a few minutes before the sale started and still be at the head of the line. When we arrived the next morning, there were about 20 people in line. We just walked to the head of the line. People were called in by number, so we were numbers five and six entering the house.

We knew where the tea service was. And we headed straight for it. It was as lovely as in the picture. Scott packed it in the box and we headed out the door. Well not quite that fast. I did find two small platters that were exquisite and exquisitely priced. But then we headed out the door.

As we got in the car I called the number for the other estate sale. It turns out there were so many people there they were hesitant to hold the canisters. We told them we were on our way. And they agreed to put them under the table where you pay for your items.

When we arrived we saw our nine canisters and a small pitcher. There was one other item that I was curious about. They had a miniature Budweiser Clydesdales wagon… you know the horse and cart that we see on TV? It looked like it was extremely old and just lovely. While Scott was packing the canisters I went down into the basement and the Budweiser Clydesdales wagon was perfect! Just adorably perfect to be part of our Christmas scenes.

While in the basement there was this restaurant booth that Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford had used in the movie “The Way We Were”. I touched it!

Let me go back to the canisters for a moment. These are beautiful ceramic canisters with gaskets in the lids to make them airtight. They are really adorable and perfect for our primary kitchen…
