Things That Go Bump in the Night…

We had a very interesting night a few nights ago. After finishing reading another light novel… we were settling down for the evening; well… early morning, after all it was past 1 AM. Scott was snoring lightly… I was just about to slip into slumberland when I heard a fluttering and bumping… At first I thought Happy was shaking her head… she does this when her ears are bothering her. But, it was very vigorous shaking. Then in the dark I saw a shadow flying around the room!
“Scott! Scotty! SCOTT!” I yelled, shaking him. “Something is flying around our bedroom.”
As he struggled to come out of his deep sleep, he whispered”be still so I can hear it!” Then he saw it… in the dark. “Looks like a large moth.”
“Well, turn on the light so you can catch it!” I screeched as Emmi and I dove under the covers.
When he turned on the light, it turned out it wasn’t a moth… but a bat! Emmi and I dove deeper under the covers. Happy continued sleeping… oblivious to all the excitement.
Scott tried to grab it, but when it flew out if the room, he chased it to the third floor and locked it in our future bathroom.
He returned to our room. “All safe now. I will catch it in the morning and get it outside.”
By now, both Emmi and I were shaking. I was afraid there was going to be another bat. Scott assured me that we should be fine now. He crawled back into bed and went promptly to sleep. Emmi and I were on high alert!
Within fifteen minutes we heard a thump… then an all too familiar fluttering.
“Scott! Scotty! SCOTT! There’s another one!”
Struggling out of his second attempt at sleep, he arose again. Not sure if I mentioned, but we sleep skin to skin… so there is my husband… no curtains on the windows, chasing a bat around the room.
Scott grabbed a small Afghan I had on the chair… threw it over the bat, who yelled in protest. Carefully he picked it up and told it, “you’ll be all right. I just need to let you out.”
Gently he carried it downstairs and released it. Then, since he was awake, he went to the third floor. Danced around with that bat for a while, then, captured him and released him outside too.
The next night was uneventful, but two nights later… just as we turned off the lights for sleep, who appears, but our little “Igor”.
Emmi and I dove under the covers, while Scott, once again, captured the little fellow and released into the night sky…
Enough is enough…
Lights remained on all night (bats can not see in the light)
We called pest control… They saw the suspected point of entry.
We are scheduled for them to return and set in one-way bat doors
In the meantime? Lights are on ALL NIGHT…
