Updating…

Several weeks have passed with no postings. One reason… we had little to say that would reflect the holiday season.

Our Happy can no longer walk. She still enjoys her meals and loves being held. But, simple tasks such as turning require assistance. We think Happy is channeling Joshie. We have had experience so this is easy. Knowing she is losing strength is hard.

Then, my oldest brother David became ill and entered the hospital on Thanksgiving Day. He was on a ventilator for almost two weeks, then we thought he was improving. But, his body had become to fragile to overcome this battle. I lost my wonderful brother December 30, 2018. This is a class assignment I wrote about Dave in 1957, when we were young. I believe it exemplifies the spirit that was his nature:

The lankiness of Dave’s body became apparent as he approached the house. His brown skin was increasingly obvious because of the white strip of skin exposed where his pants had slipped slightly below their normal resting place. He brushed his black wavy hair out of his left eye to no avail. The four porch steps were mounted in one easy stride. Standing outside the door of the kitchen, he placed his fishing pole above the door, pushed back his black unruly hair once more, and unconsciously hoisted up his pants. As he entered the door he ducked to avoid scraping the top of his head off and laid a string of seven fat rainbow trout on the kitchen sink in front of his mother.

“Didn’t do too good today, Mom,” he said as he sank into the chair by the breakfast table.

When Dave wasn’t fishing or working, he was studying…

RIP big brother…
