Decisions… decisions… decisions… Today we need to make more decisions about lighting… There is no overhead lighting in the front foyer or the front stairwell. Yikes! Entering a dark house and attempting to climb an unlit stairway is not good for a person with limited vision and, probably an unlit stairway is not particularly safe for anyone not familiar with the stairs.
First we need to figure out where to place the lighting for the stairs. Should it be halfway up the stairs or at hanging above the middle of the lower landing? Personally, I think it feels more inviting hanging above the middle of the lower landing. That way the light can illuminate the first few steps to the lower landing and the rest of the steps to the second floor. Do any of you with home stairways have an opinion that might help us make the best decision? After much searching, we have found this lovely light to hang in our stairway.
Also, we were planning on placing lighting along the stairs to illuminate each step, but learned that if a bulb burned out it would require an electrician to replace it. So we are opting for excellent stair lighting from above.
Now to the front foyer… It is not so easy to make a decision about what type light to place there. Apparently the foyer ceiling is not super high.
Should we have an overhead light or chandelier? These are two we are considering. Should the light line up with the front door or should we center it in the room?
I tend to think we should center it in the room because our foyer is large, but off center. We know that eventually, we want a lovely table in the foyer under the chandelier.
So though one decision is definitely made regarding our entry way lights, there is so much more to consider… from four thousand nine hundred five miles away…
