Seating…

Several of you have commented that you are glad we have a bed, but are concerned that we might not have any place to sit. We realize, myself especially, that chairs are very important objects and serve a very important function for most homes in the western world and… especially for us in our cottage since I need to take regular breaks.

In the general population, the importance of chairs is reflected by the fact that there are a greater variety of chairs (118 types of chairs and counting) than for any other household object. Now many of these chairs are not usually functional for the home… example, the electric chair, the dentist’s chair, fighting chair, the barber’s chair, or a lifeguard’s chair. Some I have never heard of… the bikini chair or a Voyeuse chair (apparently for sitting astride back-to-front with the top of the back padded to lean your elbows on). Some you need to be athletic just to sit on… the balance chair. But, at this moment in time we just need a place to rest our posteriors.

We just want a place to sit, rest, and have a moment or two of comfort. Well, our home does offer a few options. Though, usually, the primary function of chairs in a home is concerned with the science of Ergonomics, at this point we are just grateful to have any place to sit for a few moments.

By studying the various pictures sent to us we learned that there are four chairs in the dining room, the kitchen has a kitchen stool/chair, and the garage has at least two chairs. There is a window seat in one of the upstairs bedrooms.

In the attic there is an old upholstered chair waiting to be loved again. And though it has seen better days, it has great potential. There is a stool on the back porch. So do we have chairs? Technically, yes…

Do we have chairs we could plop down into and relax? Not at the moment, but we will survive… until we do…
