Doors…

Not sure about you, but I tend to take doors for granted. They are such an everyday ordinary part of our lives. We go in front doors, back doors, side doors, bedroom doors, bathroom doors, and closet doors without thinking twice about the door. Then there are French doors, Dutch doors (also known as half doors or stable doors), bi-fold doors, sliding doors, pocket doors, automatic doors, revolving doors, salon doors (also known as batwing doors or cafe doors), overhead doors (for garages), barn doors, pet doors, trap doors and, cellar doors (also known as bilco doors). Doors, doors everywhere!

But because we are moving to a different location we find ourselves thinking about doors. We are checking out inside doors, outside doors, upstairs doors, and yes, basement doors. Our basement at the current moment has one way in and one way out.

Well, imagine my surprise when I received a text saying we were going to install a Bilbo door in our basement. Now I assure you it was quickly followed with the corrected text stating a Bilco door. But, auto correct had changed Bilco to Bilbo. I was giggling with delight.

I think enough of you are getting to know me well enough to know I love whimsical, cute and adorable things. My husband is a huge (inadequate description) Tolkien fan.

So when Bilbo came through, I thought, “How adorable! A Hobbit door! Scott will love it!”

So though Bilco is the technical name, please know that at “our cottage,” the door to our cellar will be… “from this day forward” known as the “Bilbo” door… one more entrance to our whimsical world…
